The Ryzen 7800X3D once again outperformed the Core i9–14900K, winning in 17 out of 21 games and being almost half the cost of its competitor. The year 2023 was rich in AAA titles across various genres, many of which have received performance optimization updates.
TechSpot experts retested the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Core i9-14900K to determine the current king of gaming setups. The Intel test bench used an MSI MPG Z790 Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard and DDR5-7200 memory, while AMD’s setup included a Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master and DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. Both used the Asus ROG Strix RTX 4090 OC Edition for graphics.
Results showed the Ryzen was on average 5% faster than the Intel Core i9-14900K at 1080p resolution, which reduces GPU load and showcases CPU capabilities. In some games, the performance was equal, but in titles like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D offered significantly higher FPS.
The AMD chip lagged in poorly optimized games like Callisto Protocol, The Last of Us Part I, Hitman 3, and initially in Starfield. However, post-optimization, Starfield now runs more smoothly on modern hardware.
Based on multiple tests, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is almost always the overall winner
In conclusion, the Ryzen X3D remains the top choice for maximum FPS in most titles, particularly on the AM5 platform. Additionally, it offers better value in terms of “FPS per dollar” compared to Intel’s flagship processor.
