PlayStation 5 Pro.Enhanced Ray Tracing Capabilities

Specifications and Announcement Date of PlayStation 5 Pro Revealed by Insider

Detailed technical specifications of the yet-to-be-announced PlayStation 5 Pro have surfaced on the ResetEra forum. Along with the hardware specs, the insider also mentioned a tentative date for the presentation of the upcoming console.

According to the source, the console will be based on a 4-nm processor (TSMC N4P) using the Zen 2 architecture with a maximum clock speed of 4.4 GHz. The chip is said to have 64 KB of L1 cache per core, 512 KB of L2 cache per core, and 8 MB of shared L3 cache (4 MB per CCX).

The GFX111 GPU (RDNA 3) is reported to receive enhancements in ray tracing, borrowing some features from RDNA 4. The expected specs include a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, 56 CUs (compute units), 224 TMUs (texture mapping units), and 96 ROPs (raster operations pipelines), with a performance of up to 28.67 TFLOPs. The unified memory capacity is 16 GB (GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus with a bandwidth of 576 GB/s).

Another improvement in the console is expected to be the XDNA2 neural processor. It will be used to accelerate the scaling algorithm, aiming to maintain frame rates higher than 30 fps at 4K resolution. The insider report also mentions that the new model will be nearly twice as fast as the original model in ray tracing scenarios.

Rumors suggest that the PlayStation 5 Pro presentation will take place in September 2024.
